Embracing Your History
Where every branch has a story.
The Embracing Your History Mission
At Embracing Your History, our mission is to help individuals and families uncover, understand, and honor their family stories—especially those that have been forgotten, overlooked, or erased. We believe that family history is more than names and dates. It's legacy, identity, resilience, and healing. We provide genealogy research, storytelling, and educational resources that bring clarity, context, and meaning to the past. Through inclusive practices and accessible learning, we empower people to engage thoughtfully with their history and preserve it for future generations.
Our Core Values
1. Every Branch Has a Story
We honor all stories, whether messy, mysterious, joyful, or painful, because each one adds to the richness of a family's legacy. We seek to make room for every voice, every truth, and every history.
2. Inclusion is Non-Negotiable
We are committed to inclusive practices that reflect the full spectrum of human experience, including BIPOC histories, LGBTQ+ narratives, immigrant stories, neurodivergent and disabled voices, and underrepresented communities.
3. Compassion Over Perfection
Genealogy is deeply personal. We approach every client, every record, every project, and every story with empathy, patience, and a deep respect for complexity. We believe in progress over perfection and curiosity over judgement.
4. Accessibility is a Right, Not a Feature
Everyone deserves access to their history. We design our services, tools, and content to be approachable and usable for people of all backgrounds, abilities, and experience levels.
5. History Belongs to Everyone
Preserving history should not be limited to the elite. We strive to offer practical, affordable, human-centered solutions that make genealogy more accessible and empowering.
6. We Lead with Story
Facts matter, but it's the stories that help us remember, connect, and heal. We specialize in transforming research into meaningful narratives that celebrate resilience and connections across generations.
7. Rooted in Integrity
We are transparent, ethical, and honest in our research and relationships. We cite sources, honor privacy, and hold ourselves to high standards because trust is foundational to the work we do.
8. Education Equals Empowerment
We believe knowledge should be shared, not gatekept. Education is central to our work, whether through research guidance, written resources, workshops, or learning tools. We aim to equip people with the understanding and confidence to engage thoughtfully and independently with their family history.
9. Clarity Builds Confidence
Genealogy can feel overwhelming, confusing, or intimidating. We prioritize clear communication, transparent processes, and realistic expectations so clients and learners always understand what we’re doing, why it matters, and what comes next.
10. Sustainable Work, Done Well
We are committed to delivering high-quality work that is thoughtful, accurate, and timely. We set clear scopes and realistic timelines, communicate openly throughout the process, and hold ourselves accountable for dependable delivery. By building sustainable practices and well-defined processes, we ensure our work is done with care—without unnecessary delays or burnout.
