Most people think genealogy is about names and dates, a list of ancestors, a fancy chart, or maybe a DNA result that tells you where you’re “from.” That’s not really what this work is about. Genealogy, when it’s done well, is about people. It’s about identity. It’s about understanding how you got here and what that actually means. It’s about stories that were never written down, voices that were ignored or lost, and lives that deserve to be remembered in full context. Sometimes those stories are beautiful. Sometimes they’re complicated. Often, they’re both.

That’s where Embracing Your History comes in.

What is Embracing Your History?

Embracing Your History is a genealogy and family history service built on three things: research, storytelling, and education. We don’t just build family trees. We help you discover your people, understand their lives within real historical context, and preserve their stories in ways that actually mean something. This work isn’t about collecting names. It’s about creating something you can hold onto, something you can share, and something that makes your history feel real and alive.

Who We Serve

We work with people at every stage of their genealogy journey. Some are just getting started and don’t know where to begin. Others want to preserve family stories before they’re gone. Some are experienced researchers who have hit a wall and need deeper support. We also work with genealogy societies that want to grow, engage their communities, and improve how they serve their members.

Wherever you are in the process, you belong here.

What Makes Us Different

There are a lot of genealogy resources out there. Many assume you already know what you’re doing. Many focus only on records without helping you understand the people behind them. That can make genealogy feel overwhelming or inaccessible. That’s not how we do things.

With a background in instructional design and adult learning, everything we create is built to be clear, structured, and usable. You should be able to learn genealogy step by step, without confusion or gatekeeping. We also believe your family history should be told fully. That includes the hard parts, the complicated parts, and the stories that don’t fit neatly into a clean narrative.

What You’ll Find Here

In this space, you’ll find:

  • Practical guides to help you start your family tree

  • Step-by-step genealogy research methods

  • Tools and templates to keep your research organized

  • Support for preserving family stories and oral histories

  • Professional genealogy services when you need expert help

Everything here is designed to be useful without being overwhelming.

Our Approach to Family History

Every branch has a story. Not just the easy ones. Not just the ones that are convenient to tell. All of them. We don’t believe in gatekeeping genealogy. You do not need permission to explore your own history. We also believe your story does not have to look like anyone else’s to matter. Your history is yours, and it is worth finding.

How to Start Your Genealogy Journey

If you are new to genealogy, start simple. Begin with what you know. The best place to start is with yourself! From there, talk to your family, write things down, and stay curious. If you are feeling stuck or overwhelmed, that is normal. Genealogy research can become complex quickly. You do not have to figure it out alone.
